Gamma Emerald Following Pokémon Guide

How the lead Pokémon follower system works in Gamma Emerald Early Access and what to check when a partner does not appear in the overworld.

How it works

Gamma Emerald can display the lead party Pokémon beside the trainer in the overworld, extending the HD-2D presentation beyond battles.

Set a follower

  1. Place the desired Pokémon in the first party slot.
  2. Close the party interface completely.
  3. Move into a normal outdoor route or town.
  4. Change areas once if the follower does not refresh immediately.
  5. Save and reload only after trying a party reorder.

Why a follower may disappear

Cutscenes, interiors, scripted movement, battle transitions and tight map spaces can temporarily hide a follower. This does not necessarily mean the party member is missing.

Return to a normal outdoor area before treating it as a persistent bug.

Controller edge cases

If party reordering and menus stop responding at the same time, solve the input problem first. A duplicate controller layer can make the follower issue look like a party-state issue.
