Start with the supported path
Gamma Emerald Early Access is currently released as a standalone Windows 10/11 64-bit game. If you are troubleshooting a PC, begin with the Windows guides below. Steam Deck, Linux, macOS and Android approaches add a compatibility layer, so a workaround that succeeds on one device may still fail on another.
Crash or game not starting
Work through first-launch shader compilation, storage, memory, drivers, settings and log collection in the right order.
Input→Controller not working
Remove duplicate input layers, connect one controller before launch and recover a reliable keyboard fallback.
Experimental→Steam Deck setup
Add the Windows build as a non-Steam game, test Proton safely and understand the current limits.
Platform status→Android and mobile
There is no native APK. Learn what compatibility-layer experiments actually involve and which downloads to avoid.
Compatibility→Mac and Linux
Separate native support from Wine, Proton and virtualization, with practical expectations for each platform.
Save safety→Save location and backup
Find Slot1.sav, back up the whole Saved folder, and preserve progress before updates or compatibility tests.
Hunting→Shiny guide
Recognize shiny encounters and plan resets without inventing an odds number that has not been published.
Three rules before changing anything
- Back up progress. Close the game and copy the complete
PokemonEmerald\Savedfolder. - Change one variable at a time. A driver update, Proton version, controller remap and settings reset performed together make the result impossible to diagnose.
- Use the current release. The old island demo and the current Littleroot-to-Mauville EA are separate downloads.
